General research

Since more than 20 years we work on the reproduction of fish. Our work concerns basic research and applied research in the field of reproductive ecology and aquaculture.
Sperm cryopreservation methods for gene banking and specific breeding programs belong to our main research interests. For characterization of specific fish populations we use also population genetics. Research on cryopreservation of fish embryos makes continuous progress.
During the last decade investigations about the influence of ecological and ecotoxicological factors on fish reproduction became increasingly important.

During the last years we extended our research interest on the reproduction of amphibians. Presently basic research has highest priority. In future we plan to use our data for breeding programs of endangered amphibians in cooperation with zoos and on cryopreservation of spermatozoa of endangered species.
